Some women scrapbook (like it's a verb) , others knit, and some create endless boxes of homemade cards using special inks and stamp pads. Sorry not interested, not even enticed. But this past summer, my mom was gracious enough to bless me with her old sewing machine. The machine that resonates the familiar and comfortable sound as I recall the memories of endless hours of my mom's own sewing. Who can forget Deb's Ruffles & More, which provided many homes with beautiful curtains and window decor. My first Care Bear was homemade. I had Sunshine Bear. And all my first sewing creations were done on that machine, the Kenmore Super Stitch 8. And now, while others sit quietly counting rows of yarn to make beautiful afghans or scarves, I measure and cut and sew and iron. Sewing has become my endless hobby, my favorite past-time which brings me peace and comfort. Besides the quick curtains I made for our side door, I've made another set of curtains for a friend and two quilts. The first for my new mother-in-law, and the second for my parents and their dog Neema, who loves to sleep on the couch on her specially made quilt. I can't wait for my next project which quite possibly will be another quilt or something for which I can store all my fun sewing tools. I'm excited about sewing. Suzi homemaker, move over!
